How difficult is learning to speak English as a second language, compared to any other language?

From the people I have talked to, English is pretty hard to learn but it depends somewhat on te other languages you know and the other languages you want to learn. Spanish to Italian orPortuguese is not as hard as Spanish to English. The lack of rules, some sounds make it difficult. The frequency of other language borrowing also adds to learning confusion. (Explain the difference between pork and pig, beef and cow... But why chicken is chicken.)
